About Geseke
Geseke is a medium-sized town in the district of Soest in North Rhine-Westphalia, which lies on the historic Hellweg (now the B 1) and is located in the transitional area between the fertile Hellwegbörde and the Sauerland region to the south. The town has a tradition of settlement dating back to the Neolithic period and was a member of the Hanseatic League in the Middle Ages as an auxiliary town of Soest. For centuries, agriculture and crafts shaped the townscape before the expansion of the railroad line and the emergence of the cement industry (including the Heidelberg Materials and Dyckerhoff plants) and an iron foundry contributed to industrialization in the 19th century. Today, Geseke is characterized by well-preserved historic half-timbered houses, the late Gothic collegiate church of St. Cyriakus and the Hellweg Museum.
